It's finally here! The Depth Chart! Months long questions are being answered!
Not all of them, though. There are still a number of "OR" spots on the roster. Still, it's nice to finally have a picture of what the Tigers will look like when they face Louisville.
OFFENSE:
So, here are some quick notes on the offense, first.
-Roc Thomas is listed as the starter, which I think was expected. Pettway and Cox are still tied at H-back, but Jalen Harris gets the nod over Chris Laye at Tight End.
-Duke Williams is listed as an OR, but still has the prime place at his starting WR position. I'm honestly a bit shocked they have Tony Stevens behind him, but then I did see that they were moving him inside to a slant receiver. I really thought he'd be the deep man. I'm wondering if the Deep Threat receivers will be Marcus and Ryan Davis (no relation), since they have Ricardo Louis and Stanton Truitt as 1-2 at one position. That seems like a speed-sweep position, to me.
-Thrilled to see Melvin Ray listed as a starter.
-Austin Golson is the starting center. He wins the battle over Xavier Dampeer.
-Still no resolution for the Left Guard between Kozan and Danzy.

DEFENSE
-Lambert is the started DE with Cowart right behind him. On the other side is Carl Lawson. That's not really a shock, though.
-Dontavius Russell is started as a redshirt freshman. I'm very excited to see what he and Montravius Adams can do in the center of that line.
-Tre Williams is listed as a possible starter (an OR) at two linebacker positions. Those positions? The ones held by seniors Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy. That's very intriguing. A push to get those two to step up, or is Tre just that good? I think it's probably a bit of both.
-Justin Garrett locks down the third LB slot. I really hope he stays healthy.
-The Secondary looks as we expected it for the starters: Jones and Countess at Corner, Ford and Matthews at Safety. True Freshman Tim Irvin is listed as the #2 man at one Safety slot, and also at the starting Nickel slot. Getting him as an early entry looks like it was a big boost for the defensive backfield.
-There are a few other true freshmen listed back there, too. Jeremiah Dinson and Carlton Davis get nods as either the #2 man or at the OR slot for the #2 role.

SPECIAL TEAMS
-Kevin Phillips wins the punting job, for now. I hope he can boom it, but I also hope he's not needed very often.
-Stovall returns as the holder, which is good. Sophomore Ike Powell takes over as the Long Snapper.
-Marcus Davis said he was the starting punt returner, but he's still listed as an OR with Jayson Smith and Gray King.
-I thought the kick returners would likely be Thomas and Louis, and those two are on the list. I'm a bit surprised to see Countess as a possible, but not Rudy Ford. He was recruited as a running back, and he's very quick and elusive.
