Coming off big wins at home over Kentucky and Alabama, Auburn was hoping to gain more momentum by taking on the Florida Gators on the road in Gainesville.
Alas, it was not to be.
Things started out horribly for Auburn. The Gators went on a huge early run and before you could blink they were up by 20. That's not the kind of start you can really recover from in the SEC, much less on the road.
The Tigers never quit, but it didn't really matter. Florida was hitting on most of their shots, Auburn wasn't fouling too much, and Kareem Canty's normal fire hands were ice cold.
Those are all things that will doom this team in any game they play. Canty getting cold from three point range is the biggest one. What has one of the biggest staples of Auburn's last few big victories been? Canty three bombs. Tonight? He was 0-6 from beyond the arc. 6-15 from inside, but anytime Canty's three point game is off, you can bet that Auburn's game overall is going to be off.
Fouls were once again a big issue in this one. Horace Spencer fouled out just under the 10 minute mark to go. Auburn finished with ZERO blocks. Florida out-rebounded Auburn 44-31. Everything about this game just went wrong.
That's the story of Auburn Basketball right now. With the level of depth the Tigers have right now, pretty much everything has to go right. Tonight, basically everything went wrong for Auburn and everything went right for Florida. The Tigers just aren't capable of overcoming that right now.
So it goes. We'll move on to the next one. I still think this team is more than capable of stealing some games they're not supposed to win. It's looking like those games are going to have to come in the confines of friendly territory in Auburn Arena, though.
Oh well, we'll move on. War Eagle Always.
