News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

BASKETBALL

The Tigers will be playing UAB in Birmingham in a few weeks, and Auburn would love it if the arena was filled with Auburn fans. So, go buy your tickets and see the most talented Auburn Basketball roster in years for yourself!

SOCCER

The SEC Tournament begins for the Tigers tomorrow at 12:00pm Central. The 2nd seeded Tigers will face 7th seeded Tennessee. Auburn's last regular season game was also against the Vols, and the Tigers won 3-1.

FOOTBALL

So, this week's Undercover Barner was a bit different. My father wrote a piece that Peggy published for him. It was special to read it. I haven't had a chance to call him about it, yet, but it meant a lot to me that he felt like writing something like that.

Tuesday is Gus Malzahn Press Conference Day every week, and this week was no exception. Gus talked about Kamryn Pettway, Sean White, injured players, Vanderbilt's defense, and threw a little bit of shade at a former assistant by omission.

The first College Football Playoff rankings are out and AUBURN IS RANKED 9TH!?!?!? I did not see that coming. I thought Auburn would be ranked close to where they are in the two major polls. I'll take it, though.

David Wunderlich (formerly of Team Speed Kills) wrote about Auburn and the Wheel Route in the Ole Miss game. We've seen the Wheel Route go for a big gain or a touchdown in almost every game this season or at least since Lashlee took over.

The Noth End Zone Project is not dead, but it's definitely not going to happen this off season. Does it need upgrading? Absolutely. I haven't seen a design I actually like, yet, though. I just don't want anything to break up the clean lines of the interior bowl.

Josh Holsey played on the last Auburn team to play (and lose) to Vanderbilt in 2012. He talked about how miserable losing that game was. You know he's ready for this one.

Speaking of Holsey, his comments on when he and the defense had to face Kamryn Pettway on the scout team in practice are hilarious. From his one pass catch against Arkansas last year and A-Day this spring, we knew he liked to run angry. It's been a whole lot of fun to see him fully unleashed on the rest of the world.

Bowl projections are coming out, and right now Auburn is projected for New Years Day or New Years Six bowls. I'm selfishly hoping for the Cotton Bowl if the Tigers don't somehow find their way into the Playoff. Dallas is just a 4 hour drive from San Antonio.
