Composite Three Star Cornerback Traivon Leonard Commits to Auburn

The Tigers were after him back before he committed to North Carolina, and now he's flipped to Auburn.

Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

Remember the other day when I mentioned that the Tigers had a ton of Safeties committed, but not really a true cornerback (aside from ATH Malcolm Askew)? Well, scratch that. Now Auburn does have one with the flip of 3* Traivon Leonard from West Palm Beach, FL from the North Carolina Tarheels to the Tigers.

Leonard is 6'0, 188 lbs, and has been someone Auburn has coveted for a while - as evidenced by their continued pursuit of him after he pledged to North Carolina. If Wesley McGriff wants him, then I definitely want him. Don't let the rankings fool you; he may be a lowish three start, but he boasts offers from plenty of Power 5 teams.

The Highlights

The Class

Sometime shortly after Jarrett Stidham committed Saturday evening, he was downgraded from a 5* to a 4* in the 247Sports Composite. That could have to do with a ton of different things. He's a JUCO, and those are rated differently (and sometimes not at all) by different services. I think some don't rate them and some don't rate them above a 3*.

So, Auburn's class dropped back to 9th in the nation and 5th in the SEC. With Traivon Leonard's commitment - the 18th for the 2017 class - the Tigers go back ahead of Michigan for the 8th spot in the nation (still 5th in the SEC). I suspect that he won't be the only commitment this week, either. Look for the Tigers to add JUCO TE Salvatore Cannella this week, as well, and possibly 4* DB CJ Avery. Those commitments would put the Tigers back up to 6th (assuming no one ahead of them gets commitments) in the nation and 4th in the SEC. I'm also curious about how LS Bill Taylor fits since he's not going to count towards the 2017 class.
