Tweets came out tonight indicating that a week prior to Auburn starting their 2016 spring practice, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is in Texas meeting with Baylor head coach Art Briles.
Weird: Auburn HFC Gus Malzahn in house with Art Briles watching #Baylor and Kansas.

Baylor football coach Art Briles in the house, like often is for Bears basketball. Joined tonight by Auburn coach Gus Malzahn

So why is Gus out in Waco? There could be a number of reasons. Maybe Gus thinks Briles can help him with Auburn's offensive woes. Art Briles is from similar origins of Malzahn as a high school coach. He runs a crazy up-tempo offense. He's also fantastic at running a balanced up-tempo offense. Without having to have a mobile QB, too, I might add.
If you watched the tail end of last season, you saw Baylor finish up the year running an offense that was basically just the Wildcat. Art Briles is a master of effective offenses no matter the personnel. He's one of the best schemers in the nation.
Of course, it could be a little simpler, too. Art Briles joined Gus Malzahn as the keynote speaker of a high school coaches clinic in Auburn just last April. Perhaps Gus is just returning the favor.
Personally, I'm going to pretend they're sharing ideas and Gus is using this opportunity to run some thoughts by Art Briles prior to Spring Practice to make sure Auburn is back to firing on all cylinders in 2016. I'd love to see Gus incorporate some of Baylor's offensive plans. It could be the secret to making his offense take off if Sean White were to win the starting job.
