News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

AUBURN

The descendent oaks are being planted in Samford Park along the walkway from Toomer's Corner to Samford Hall. This is the final step in the restoration of the Toomer's Corner/Samford Park area following the actions of [NAME REDACTED].

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

Some details on Jay Jacobs' contract with the university came out yesterday. It was intriguing to say the least. I had some thoughts on it. I'm not thrilled with it.

BASEBALL

The guys finish up the non-conference season with a series against Oral Roberts and then facing Georgia Tech in a weekday game in Atlanta next week. For the men, the games start at 3pm, 2pm, and 1pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively.

SOFTBALL

The non-conference season is done with already for the Softball team, as they prepare to take on Florida in the SEC Opener this weekend. Auburn finished it up Wednesday night with a sweep of Tennessee State. We examined that series and looked back on the first 23 games of the season and how well so many Tigers have been performing.

Oh, and that SEC opener? A freshman will start on the mound for the Tigers. She's cruised through the non-conference schedule, so it should be interesting to see her face the top team in the nation.

EQUESTRIAN

The #1 Equestrian team will close out the regular season out west to take on #5 Oklahoma State and #7 Kansas State. It will be two road meets over a weekend against top ranked competition.

GYMNASTICS

The final home meet of the season will be tonight. Megan Walker discussed Senior Night and recapped the historic win in Athens against Georgia last weekend.

FOOTBALL

Spring Practice #5 is in the books, and Gus met with the media along with a few players, afterwards. There were some interesting tidbits to come out of there, and Carl Lawson's time with the media was especially good.

So there were the reports from the beat writers the after Tuesday's practice that Roc Thomas was running with the first team and Jovon Robinson with the second team. They're splitting the reps with the first team, apparently.
