News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

Academic Progress Rate

APR scores came out yesterday, and Auburn sports look great. These Academic Progress Rates are supposed to make sure the student athletes are actually getting an education while they're on campus. They keep teams eligible for post season play, or in football, help teams get selected for bowl games when there aren't enough 6-6 teams to fill all the spots.

Auburn had fourteen sports with perfect scores for the 2014-2015 academic year, including men's basketball for the second year in a row. Football's score was second only to Vanderbilt in the SEC. We comin' for ya, Vandy!

Baseball

USA Baseball announced its midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List and Auburn's Anfernee Grier made the cut. Not so surprising considering there's been news that Grier is flying up MLB draft boards.

Softball

#2 Auburn played a big double header against #7 Florida State yesterday.

The first game went the Tigers' way. Emily Carosone's 3-run DINGER in the fourth gave Auburn a 7-5 lead which was pushed to 9-6 by the end of seven innings.

The second game saw too many players left on base, including the tying run at second in the last inning. Carosone represented the tying run in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, but her teammates couldn't get her across home and the Tigers' 17-game winning streak was snapped, 4-3.

Tennis

The SEC tournament has started for the men, who faced Tennessee in the opening round. Auburn fell 4-3 and will face Kentucky, the fifth seed, today.

Football

Brandon Marcello caught up with Woody Barrett, the true freshman quarterback set to arrive on campus this fall. Could he be in the mix for the starting role? He thinks so.
