Miami-Ohio Graduate Transfer Cornerback Marshall Taylor Commits to Auburn

For the second time this year, the Tigers have reached up into the north and pulled down a graduate transfer. First it was linebacker T.J. Neal, from Illinois. Now it's Miami-Ohio Cornerback Marshall Taylor, originally from Cordele, GA.

Taylor was scheduled to visit Florida and Michigan State, but decided after his weekend visit to the Plains that Auburn is where he wants to be.

His stats at Miami aren't exaclty eye-popping. He had two interceptions last season, one for a touchdown, and only three in his career. He finished 10th on their team in tackles last season with 41 total. The Redhawks finished 2-6 in their conference last season and were second to last in their division.

Taylor will be joining a secondary that has a number of skilled players, particularly at the cornerback position. Granted, we don't know how well Josh Holsey will come back from injury or if Jamel Dean will turn out to be as good as he's been hyped, plus the rest of the corners are pretty young. Taylor will arrive in the summer and compete for a starting spot in the fall.

If nothing else, Auburn's defense is adding some experienced depth at the cornerback position. I'm actually shocked Taylor chose Auburn given that depth, but perhaps he sees a chance to step in opposite Carlton Davis at the corner position.
