Four Star Offensive Tackle Austin Troxell Commits to Auburn

Gus Malzahn & Company received some very good news on the recruiting trail this afternoon at a position of great need.

Auburn went into the weekend hoping for some big recruiting news with the top QB target Kellen Mond visiting. They did get some big and welcome news, but it wasn't at the QB position.

It was, however, at a position of great need. After a long and back-and-forth recruitment between Auburn and Alabama, 4* 6'7, 275 lbs Offensive Tackle Austin Troxell from Madison Academy has committed to Auburn.

This is a rare case where the 247Sports Crystal Ball was not exactly on target. It was a 60% lean to Alabama and 40% lean to Auburn. Troxell has said plenty of times throughout his recruitment that he was 50-50 between Alabama and Auburn. He was in Tuscaloosa for their A-Day, but he was back in Auburn unofficially for Big Cat Weekend. This afternoon he pulled the trigger and chose the Tigers.

Two of his former teammates at Madison Academy, Malik Miller and Kerryon Johnson, are now at Auburn. Having some familiar faces who he's blocked for before probably helped. I don't know for certain, but I seem to remember he grew up an Alabama fan. If true, this is a huge swing for Auburn.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Troxell is the #13 OT in the nation and the #2 recruit in the state. After losing a key linebacker target from Auburn's own backyard Friday before last, this is a huge recruiting win.

HIGHLIGHTS

Hudl's video embed isn't exactly working properly for me at the moment, so here's a link to his highlights. If it gets straightened out, I'll edit with the embed.

THE CLASS

Troxell is Auburn's 9th commitment of the 2017 recruiting cycle. The Tigers were barely inside the Top 40 a few short weeks ago, and now they're up to 17th in the nation and the only team in the Top 20 with only 9 commitments. The Tigers sit at 7th in the SEC at the moment.
