News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

Garrett Reid-USA TODAY Sports

LICENSE PLATE

Someone in Florida is upset at the thought there could be an Auburn license plate for the state of Florida. Apparently no out-of-state schools have vanity plates, there. I've never really put that much thought into it since I always had my Auburn plates when I lived in Georgia.

BASEBALL

Anfernee Grier is one of 25 semi-finalists for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award.

Jay Jacobs is prepared to go to court to fight Sunny Golloway's lawsuit, calling it a "shakedown" of Auburn University. Given how crazy a good bit of that lawsuit is, I'm glad they're willing to fight it.

BASKETBALL

All the talk and focus has been on the football signees who have reported for summer workouts, but lost in the shuffle a bit is the fact that Mustapha Heron, Jared Harper, and Anfernee McLemore have arrived to begin working with the basketball team, as well.

SOFTBALL

Three Tigers were named All-Americans, yesterday. Kasey Cooper was chosen 1st team, Emily Carosone 2nd team, and Jade Rhodes 3rd team. All very deserving honors!

Auburn's first game in the 2016 Women's College World Series is this afternoon. We've got a preview of it for you along with the information you need to be able to watch it. Some of you may have to stream it at work. Personally, I'm going to be working from my laptop in our classroom that has an 80 inch TV. Here's a preview from the official site.

TENNIS

Two of Auburn's tennis players, doubles partners Pleun Burgmans and Alizee Michaud, finished the season ranked 9th and earned ITA All-American status. Their final ranking was the highest for an Auburn doubles team in school history.

FOOTBALL

What did Gus Malzahn have to say about Roc Thomas, satellite camps, and the QB race when he talked to the media for a brief period at the SEC's Spring Meetings? Well, see for yourself!

Who are some "bounce-back" candidates around the SEC? Players who were injured last season and look to make a mark in 2016. Auburn has one on defense, and it's not the one you probably think of at first.

ESPN examines the conference to try to figure out who may top the 1,000-yard mark in rushing yards. Yes, Auburn has a player on that list. As well they should since Gus has never had a season without a 1,000-yard rusher.

Is there anything to the word a few weeks back that there could be a discussion on Auburn moving to the SEC East? Apparently not. I'm not shocked, but I still wish there actually was some talk on it.

Auburn is talking to UAB about a future nonconference football game. I'm glad to hear that. Hopefully, it can happen fairly quickly once the Blazers restart football. I'm sure Alabama is blowing up UAB's phone for a game, too, and HAHAHAHA, sorry, no I can't finish that sentence without laughing.

A former Auburn star defensive back, Buddy McClinton, is on the ballot for the 2017 class of the College Football Hall of Fame. McClinton is still Auburn's career interceptions leader. That's impressive given the difference in the game then and today when it comes to how often teams throw the football.
