It's Big Cat Weekend on the Plains, and there are a ton of highly ranked and coveted prospects in town. Last season, the Tigers picked up a commitment from 2017 5* Offensive Tackle Calvin Ashley at Big Cat. Today, they've added the sixth player of the 2017 cycle in 4* DB Malcolm Askew.
Askew, 5'10.5, 183 lbs, from McAdory High School is an elite talent. His offer list shows that. Everyone wanted him and has been offering him. The 247Sports Crystal Ball has been an Auburn lean for a while with Bama being the only other real competitor.
Auburn's had a good track record with some players from McAdory. Perhaps you've heard of one of them: Bo Jackson.
The Highlights
The Class
Askew bumps Auburn from 39th in the nation to 30th for the 2017 cycle. It also makes Auburn the highest ranked team, by far, with only 6 commits, so don't be too discouraged by that 30th ranking. In the SEC it bumps Auburn ahead of Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina for 7th in the conference.
The Tigers are in good shape with a number of other prospects, too. Particularly QB Kellen Mond who just decommitted from Baylor, recently. That also put the Tigers in well with a couple of other Baylor decommits, too. We'll see how that all works out. Big Cat Weekend could still yield another commitment or two, as well.
