This is something I haven't really done in the past, but may try to institute this year. The SEC holds a weekly teleconference where all of the coaches speak with the media. Similar to my weekly Tweet-cap of Gus' Tuesday press conference, I'll have a round-up here of anything else he's said.
Was there anything new in this from yesterday? A bit, yes. He said that Marshall Taylor is cleared to play this weekend against Clemson. That doesn't mean he will, but he's there if needed. He said Woody Barrett and John Franklin III have been simulating Deshaun Watson in practice. Malik Miller will definitely play this season. The usual stuff, mostly.
Matthew Stevens asked every SEC coach their policy on handguns. He got some interesting answers. Plenty of the coaches mentioned there would have to be some mention of hunting (though that's not usually done with handguns) in policies because plenty of players in the SEC come from areas where hunting is popular. Still, it was interesting to see their answers. It obviously comes in light of the recent arrest of Stephen Roberts, but I'm curious about Alabama's policy. He had answers from pretty much every SEC coach except Nick Saban on his timeline, and Saban's team also had players arrested for handgun possession over the summer.
Gus credits Herb Hand with helping design the offense when he came into college football. Y'all, I'm serious, I know I've beaten this horse to death, but Herb Hand may be the biggest assistant coach hire in college football this past offseason. He and Gus were deadly at Tulsa.
