News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

BASEBALL

One publication ranks Auburn's recruiting class as the fifth best in the nation. They have it second in the SEC behind Ole Miss (who had the #2 class). We knew Butch Thompson's hiring would pay dividends on the recruiting trail, and we're seeing that. (A certain other team doesn't show up even in the "others" category).

SOCCER

After a pair of braces last week, it's no surprise that Kristen Dodson was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

SOFTBALL

The 2017 schedule is out! The ladies made it to the semis in 2015, the finals in 2016, and are trying to finish it off with a championship in 2017.

FOOTBALL

Dr Z had plenty to say about the experience of taking his young son to the LSU game along with the game itself. As always, his weekly eye exams are well worth the read.

The staff all gave their thoughts on plays and players of the game. You only get one guess as to who the pretty much unanimous player of the game was.

Blake has TAKES for you! They came out late last night, and they're well worth the read. They're also definitely of the hot and spicy kind, and he's already upset one person who decided to leave a comment about it.

A FanPost was put up yesterday detailing Auburn's offensive performance against LSU. I definitely thought it was worth spreading around, so I put it on the front page and I'm mentioning it, here. FanPosts are always there for anyone with thoughts!

In a big shocker, Daniel Carlson was the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week. He was also recognized by the Lou Groza Award committee for his six field goal performance.

The Misssissippi State game next weekend will kick off at 11am Central. It will be Auburn's first early game of the season (after a 2:30pm kickoff this weekend).

A win this weekend against Louisiana Monroe is about as likely as it can get. The school is asking fans to avoid rolling the Magnolia Avenue Oak after that game and others going forward until its health can be evaluated following the weekend fire.
