BASKETBALL
You know what's fun? Beating Alabama. You know what's even better? Whoopin' Alabama. The Tigers knocked off the Tide 84-64 in probably their best second-half performance of the season, Saturday afternoon.
Was Bruce excited about the win? You bet Bruce was excited about the win.
Not all was great on the basketball front this weekend, though. It was a back-and-forth game between Auburn and Kentucky, but the ladies couldn't pull out the W in the end, falling 60-64.
FOOTBALL
So, maybe you've heard, but Auburn has a new offensive coordinator. It was the person that many suspected it was going to be - and probably should be - all along, Arizona State's Chip Lindsey.
There were plenty of rumors swirling about the search and how there was a big power struggle going on over it. That may or may not be the reason why it was taking so long. I wrote something on that subject late Saturday night. Then, lo and behold, by just before noon on Saturday we had a hire. TOTALLY CLAIMING I HELPED.
At his introductory press conference, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn indicated that he is "retiring" his ubiquitous game day clipboard and the offense will be 100% Chip Lindsey's to run. Lindsey also said that this was a "dream job" after being at Auburn as an analyst in 2013.
If you're curious about his contract details, you can find those here.
I'm curious what the Maryland folks have to say now after 5* OT Calvin Ashley has said he's shutting down his recruitment and won't take another visit or welcome any other teams' coaches on an in-home visit. I'm sure they'll continue to say he's just saying what we want to hear and that he'll be at Maryland. If he did flip that would be one of the biggest last-second heel turns ever.
