NCAA Football: Auburn at Arkansas Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Happy November, everyone. Amen Corner is right around the... corner... and we’ll play some combination of #1 teams, or a #1 and a #2, or something like that.

Georgia snagged the #1 spot in the first College Football Playoff rankings last night, with Alabama #2, and Auburn the next SEC team in the order at #14. The Tigers are also the highest-ranked two-loss team in the poll.

Want to feel better about the destruction that Bama’s leaving in its wake right now?

Bama’s played absolutely no one at this point. Their wins are over teams not even sniffing a ranked spot. They’re a good team, but they’re not unbeatable by any stretch.

For Auburn, we can beat them, but we’ve got a couple mountains to climb first. This week, it’s more of a foothill and a morning hike, as we have Texas A&M in College Station at 11 AM CST. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Auburn’s a big favorite in a morning game.

Yesterday I wrote about sucking out the poison against the Aggies. They’re a team that we’ve had our ups and downs against, with the downs ending a coach’s tenure and a run to the playoff. It’s time to reverse that trend and get yet another win in College Station as we get ready for the #1 team in the country next week.

It’ll be a little more difficult with the Tigers having to accomplish the task without Kam Pettway, who broke out against Arkansas with three touchdowns. He apparently also broke his shoulder blade in the win, and will be out an “extended time”. Cool.

However, he’s the only guy we’ll have injured. Everyone else is back. O-line, D-line, defensive backs, all of them.

But hey, basketball also starts this week! Auburn plays an exhibition against Barry. It might as well just be some guy coming into Auburn Arena to tangle with Bruce Pearl and company, but you can see the 2017 edition of the Tigers tomorrow night at 7 PM CST. The game’s on the radio as well, so tune in. By the way, Barry’s mascot wouldn’t be misplaced on a cereal box.

Auburn basketball still has some questions, mainly if we’ll be without a couple of our star players this season in some capacity because of the impending NCAA/FBI investigation. Still, until we know, the Tigers have a boatload of talent, and some publications are taking notice.

And finally, we’ll save the biggest news for last, as everything’s about to change in the Auburn area.

There’s a reason my Twitter banner is a picture of the Cook Out menu. When you can get a burger tray with a corndog and a BLT as sides, you know this place is special. Enjoy it, Auburn. I wish there’d been one of these in town when I was in school.

War Eagle!
