It’s a very common tale with teams that come off of huge wins like Auburn is doing right now. They lose the next week, or look terrible, or loaf around and leave everyone unhappy.
I don’t think we’ll see that today. Auburn’s been on fire since that loss to LSU, with that second half collapse spurring them on to some of the best football we’ve seen over the past couple of years. The Tigers have won three straight since that happened, with the margins of victory being 32, 15, and 23 (over the #1 team in the country). Auburn’s offense is doing better in many metrics than the 2010 and 2013 offenses. It just works.
Meanwhile, the defense has been lights out, culminating in a fantastic performance against Georgia, holding the Bulldogs to just 46 yards rushing and allowing less than 250 total yards. We’ve got a pro defensive line, linebackers that should all get looks at the next level, and an upperclassmen-laden secondary that’s been solid as hell in the back end.
Now, we get the breather. The deep breath before the plunge. The calm before the storm. However you want to put it, Louisiana-Monroe will be a tune-up, a break, a dry run for Alabama. Just gotta keep the wheels turning, and stay limbered up heading into Turkey Week.
