Well this is a nice Iron Bowl week surprise. One of the top players in the 2020 class, DE Andy Boykin, announced his commitment to Auburn this morning on Twitter.
Yes you read that right, Boykin is in the 2020 recruiting class meaning he’s only a sophomore in high school. But make no mistake, this kid is going to be one of the top rated players in that class. He already holds offers from Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Expect plenty more to come over the next two seasons.
This is also a big commitment for the Tigers as Boykin is on a loaded Troup County team. Auburn is hard after his teammates 2019 4* LB King Mwikuta, 2019 3* LB Joko Willis and 2020 ATH Kobe Hudson. Benjamin Wolk reported over the weekend that the Auburn staff is trying to sell the group on continuing their careers together in college. Well the Tigers already have one of the group on board. Not a bad start.
Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any tape out there on Boykin so can’t really give a scouting report. I imagine some will come out in the coming months. But this is a kid that earned an offer at basically every camp he attended this summer. That’s typically a sign a recruit has a ton of talent. As a sophomore in high school he’s already 6’3” 235 lbs so I wouldn’t be shocked to see him grow into a defensive tackle.
From an early look, Auburn appears to be only the 7th team to have a 2020 prospect committed. Obviously the 2020 signing day is a long ways away so Auburn will no doubt have to fight to keep Boykin’s commitment. However, the young man has been basically at every Auburn home game this fall and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that continue over the next two years. Either way, never hurts to get an stud on board when you can.
War Eagle Andy!
