Auburn Beats Dayton 73-60

Auburn gets a good win on the road.

The Auburn Tigers passed their first road test of the season with a 73-60 victory on Wednesday night against the Dayton Flyers. With the win, Auburn improved to 5-1 on the season while Dayton fell to 3-3. Overall, the Tigers shot 22-57 (38.6%) for the game, 10-25 (40%) from 3-point range and 19-24 (79.2%) from the free throw line. Defensively, Auburn held their opponent to their lowest point output of the season and forced 19 turnovers. Auburn held Dayton to 36.2% shooting for the game.

After being held to 2 points in the first half, Mustapha Heron led the Tigers with 21 points on 7-13 shooting and also had 7 rebounds. Over the last 3 games, Heron is averaging 24.7 points per game. The Tigers got major contributions from their two big guys off the bench. Chuma Okeke had the best game of his young career with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Anfernee McLemore had a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. McLemore made one of the best defensive plays of the game when he blocked a Dayton dunk attempt with about 2 minutes left to pretty much seal the win. Bryce Brown and Jared Harper added 11 points each.

The game began as a game of runs as Auburn started the game on a 11-2 run. Dayton responded with a 13-0 run before Auburn closed the half outscoring the Flyers 24-9. Auburn led 35-24 at halftime. Auburn comes home to Auburn Arena and plays George Mason on Sunday afternoon at 2PM.
