The 2017 AP All-America Teams were announced just now, and Auburn ended up being a pretty heftily-represented bunch after it was all said and done.
Braden Smith earned Auburn’s only first-team honors, as he was joined at the first-team offensive guard spot by Quenton Nelson from Notre Dame. Kerryon Johnson, Daniel Carlson, and Carlton Davis all earned second-team distinction from the Associated Press.
Johnson was joined in the second-team backfield by Wisconsin freshman running back Jonathan Taylor, and finished behind Heisman finalist Bryce Love and Rashaad Penny on the first team. Daniel Carlson again lost out to Matt Gay, as the Utah kicker was awarded with the first-team kicker spot. It’s the second year in a row that Carlson placed on the second team.
Finally, Carlton Davis made the second team with Jalen Davis from Utah State. The first-team corners were Josh Jackson from Iowa and Denzel Ward from Ohio State.
Last season, Carlson and Montravius Adams were the Tigers’ only AP All-American selections, so this is a nice bump up after a very solid year.
War Eagle!
