After a subpar week, our former Tigers made a much bigger splash at the professional level. Cam Newton got a win, Cody Parkey kicked, Blake Countess scored, and Auburn had a nice showing in the NFL over the weekend.

We start with the Chosen One.

Cam Newton’s huge run to clinch the ballgame was one of the biggest plays of the day in the NFL, as it helped the 8-4 Panthers beat the 10-2 Vikings. Now, Carolina’s right in the thick of the playoff hunt with a 9-4 record overall.

On the day, Cam went just 13-25 for 137 yards, a touchdown and an interception, but he added 70 rushing yards on 11 carries to help Carolina win.

Oh, and he again wore something interesting.

Way out West, the Rams met the Eagles in one of the day’s most important games. With LA trailing by three early in the second half, one former Tiger channeled his inner David Langner.

And last night, Cody Parkey continued to have a whale of a season.

Parkey finished the night 2-2 on field goals and 3-3 on extra points as Miami beat New England 27-20 at home. He also converted another onside kick for the Dolphins (surprise, surprise).

Other Tigers doing notable things included:

  • Karlos Dansby leading the Cardinals with 8 tackles, while Josh Bynes intercepted a pass for Arizona.
  • Peyton Barber’s 58 yards on 12 carries, one week after his first career 100-yard game.
  • Jermaine Whitehead getting his first professional carry on a fake punt that converted the first down.
  • And as more of a year-long accomplishment, Carl Lawson’s continued a fantastic rookie season for the Bengals.

Wonderful! War Eagle!
