Auburn in the NFL - Week 13

A newcomer arrives on the rundown!

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Green Bay Packers Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

I believe we missed a week or two of these, what with all the actual college football excitement happening. But now that we’re no longer in the championship hunt, we can latch on to our former stars and mooch the success for Auburn from their professional endeavors!

So, who did the best out of our former Tigers?

It was someone that we... did not expect.

He had a very solid 100-yard rushing day in his first start for the Bucs up at Green Bay, with 143 all-purpose yards overall in Tampa’s 26-20 defeat to the Packers.

Elsewhere, everyone’s favorite former Tiger, Cam Newton, took his Panthers down to New Orleans for a matchup of 8-3 teams. The Saints’ offense was pretty good, thanks in large part to rookie Alvin Kamara, and New Orleans won the game 31-21. Cam had an alright game, after battling a sore right thumb for much of the previous week, and went 17-27 for 183 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 51 yards in the defeat.

Other than, that there wasn’t much in the way of former Tigers doing well on the next level, except Josh Bynes notching 8 tackles for the Cardinals to go along with Karlos Dansby’s 6 tackles as Arizona beat the Rams.

And then there’s one Tiger who became an integral part of a bit of a controversy. Cody Parkey made just one field goal in the Dolphins’ win over Denver, but he attempted to execute an onside kick while Miami led by a lot late in the ballgame. Thus, Parkey got sucked into the sordid affairs of his head coach Adam Gase, who felt slighted by John Elway and the Broncos after not getting a fair shake at the head coaching job there. Gase didn’t even get Parkey to do the famous onside kick where he taps it and runs alongside the ball, it was a dumb normal one that didn’t even work.

Here’s to hoping we get some fireworks from next week’s slate of games. War Eagle!
