Well, we’ve seen this story before.
The 2017 Lou Groza Award goes to @MGtweetymonster (Matt Gay) Congratulations to all of our Finalists this year! pic.twitter.com/xaz20HdRxt

Daniel Carlson was the best kicker in the country again. And Daniel Carlson went to the College Football Awards ceremony again. And Daniel Carlson was up for the Groza Award again. And Daniel Carlson didn’t win the Lou Groza Award again.
Yeah, he had a little trouble at times this year, but he’s still the guy you would turn to if you needed a field goal. When you give the award to some guy whose Twitter handle includes “tweetymonster”, it devalues the entire process. I’M GLAD DANIEL CARLSON DIDN’T WIN YOUR STOOPID TROPHY. He’s going to be just fine without it.
I guess there are other things that are important in this world.
. @DanielCarlson38 not winning the @LouGrozaAward for the third straight year is unfortunate, but thank God our life and legacy on this earth is not defined by awards, but instead by the lives that we impact. pic.twitter.com/3SWKRZtCYd

“It’s huge to be recognized as one of the best kickers in the country," says @DanielCarlson38, the only 3-time @LouGrozaAward finalist.

Says @AuburnFootball special teams coordinator @CoachTimHorton: "What a legacy he's left for Auburn."https://t.co/wnzFxwwz1t
He’s the only three-time finalist for the Groza Award, and the all-time leading scorer in SEC history. He’s the 5th leading scorer all-time with 471 points, and the 2nd kicker on the list behind Zane Gonzalez (who also beat him out for a Groza Award). He’d need 23 points in the Peach Bowl to tie Gonzalez, so I think he’ll probably end up comfortably in 5th place.
It sucks that he didn’t win the Award, but someone on Auburn’s side got a pretty nice bit of recognition yesterday. After what I thought was a snub with the Broyles Award, Kevin Steele got some publicity.

And the Walter Camp All-American team was announced as well, with Auburn landing three guys on the first and second teams.

So, Carlson gets the nod as first team kicker, but doesn’t win the Groza. Okay.
Enjoy the snow, everyone. War Eagle!
