News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Yes, this is very late. Last night's game (uggghhhhhhh)  and having to get up and get ready to fly to a planning conference left me with other things I needed to be doing. Now I'm getting this done just before heading to the airport.

BASKETBALL

Did we sweep Alabama in the regular season? Yes. Yes, we did. The game ended a bit closer than it should have, but the Tigers came away from Tuscaloosa with the 82-77 victory. With that win, Bruce Pearl joined a rather exclusive club of Auburn basketball coaches.

For his efforts against Tennessee (where he was basically the only offense in the first half) and against the Tide, Jared Harper was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

Don't look now, but the Tigers are on the cusp of the post-season in some form. It really could happen.

Katie Frerking put up a career record in points, but it wasn't enough for the Tigers in College Station, as they fell 61-66 to the Aggies.

SOFTBALL

One of the players Auburn was hoping to step in at 1st Base and replace Jade Rhodes as an infielder and slugger, transfer Tannon Snow, is going to be out the first few games of the season with unknown medical issues. Hopefully, she gets better much soon!

If you want to get caught up on this year's team, the official site has position previews that you can check out: Infielders, CatchersOutfieldersPitchers.

It's going to be a tough start for the Tigers as they'll open the season with some out-of-conference games against some of the nation's best while breaking in a new lineup - one that may include Kasey Cooper leading off the batting order. The first game is a rematch of last year's championship series against Oklahoma.

FOOTBALL

One of Auburn's signees is quite the track star. Noah Igbinoghene (wow, I typed it right the first time!) broke the state record in the triple jump this weekend. You can watch him do it, here.
