Auburn Softball returns to the field tonight with a 15-2 record and fresh off a 15-0 shellacking of Liberty last night. Tonight begins the annual Wilson/DeMarini Classic on the Plains. This will be the last home nonconference slate for the Tigers as they get set for a very tough SEC schedule beginning next weekend.
ERA | Opponent ERA | Batting AVG | Opponent's BA% | On Base % | Slugging % | |
Liberty | 3.48 | 4.37 | .324 | .243 | .396 | .417 |
CofC | 3.15 | 3.65 | .303 | .241 | .381 | .394 |
Texas State | 1.27 | 3.39 | .223 | .191 | .360 | .380 |
Auburn | 0.73 | 5.77 | .272 | .196 | .414 | .447 |
Game 1: Liberty (9-6), 3 March, 6:00 pm Central, SEC Network+
The Tigers will hope to repeat last night's performance against the Liberty Flames in which the bats absolutely erupted for 15 runs in the first two innings alone. Sure, the Flames aren't a big name. But they've UCLA and Florida so far this year, too, and lost 7-1 to the Bruins and just 2-1 to the Gators.
Game 2 & 4: College of Charleston (7-6), 4 March, 3:30 pm Central / 5 March, 1:00 pm Central, SEC Network+
College of Charleston hasn't started the year out terribly well. They've already played South Carolina from the SEC and lost both games. They lost game one this afternoon to the Bobcats of Texas State 11-3 in 6 innings. This should be a game the Tigers can dominate.
Game 3: Texas State (11-3), 4 March, 6:00 pm Central
Of the games this weekend, this could be the toughest. The Bobcats have excellent pitching, something that has stifled Auburn so far this year. Their season hasn't been filled with too many tough opponents, but they did give ranked BYU a pretty good game early in the season. This one will definitely be a tough one.
