Auburn baseball is off to a pretty good start after winning their third straight weekend series, this time over the Lipscomb Bisons.
Game 1: 8-0 Tigers
Keegan Thompson continues to be a master on the mound. He has yet to give up a single run in 21 innings of work. The bats got going early with a RBI double by Blake McGuffin. The Lipscomb pitcher came into this game with a pretty good ERA of his own, but the Tigers chased him from the mound relatively early on their way to the 8-0 victory.
Game 2: 5-4 Tigers
Auburn fell behind in this one even as Casey Mize threw an excellent overall game. The Bison picked up a single run in the 2nd and 4th innings. Auburn got one back in the bottom of the 5th, but Lipscomb jumped up even higher to 4-1 in the top of the 8th.
Auburn rallied back, though. In the 8th inning, Auburn played four runs beginning with Josh Anthony's groundout to third. Cole Lipscomb returned to the mound for the 9th inning and closed the game out.
Game 3: 7-8 Bison.
The Tigers once again fell behind to the Bison Sunday afternoon. And, once again, one big inning got the Tigers back up on top. Unfortunately, the Bison were able to rally late and add a run in 9th to tie it up at 7 and send it to extra innings. Gabe Klobosits attempted to pitch but then left with an injury. Daniel Sprinkle came on and walked two batters to load the bases and then walked in the leading run. The Tigers went to the bottom 10th trailing 7-8. They couldn't get it done and dropped the series finale to Lipscomb.
The next game for the Tigers is Tuesday against South Alabama at 3:00 pm Central. They'll also take on Kennesaw State Wednesday afternoon at the same time. That will be followed by the last non-conference regular season series against Presbyterian.
