Unlike in baseball where the top team in the conference is playing the bottom team in the conference, the softball series between Auburn and Alabama features two of the best in the conference.

Stats wise, these are two very similar teams. They both rely on two ace pitchers. For Alabama, it's Sydney Littlejohn (14-5, 1.11) and Alexis Osorio (19-7, 1.37). For Auburn, it's Kaylee Carlson (24-3, 1.24) and Makayla Martin (17-5, 2.12). Two weekends ago we also saw Ashlee Swindle get her first SEC start and win, so it's possible Auburn could turn to her, as well.
Alabama's leading hitter is Meris Schroder with a .340 average and 24 RBIs. They're leading home run hitter is Peyton Grantham with 7. Only one other player has more than 4. Auburn, meanwhile, has five batters with over 5 home runs and are led by Kendall Veach with 11. That's a far cry from last season when the Tigers had 3 batters with 15+ homers.
The revelation for Auburn of late has been Alyssa Rivera. The freshman has really come on strong and his now leading the team in batting average with a .402. Then comes slapper Victoria Draper and slugger Carlee Wallace. Wallace has said that she will be playing even though she suffered a big blow to the face that resulted in stitches against Mississippi State last weekend.
This game is on the road in Tuscaloosa, so it's definitely going to be a tough series. National seeds may not be decided in this game, but there's a chance that they could be, too. Win this series and Auburn is in a very good place heading into the SEC Tournament.
