After yesterday’s recruiting news, let’s run down what looks like an embarrassment of riches at the signal-caller position.
- Jarrett Stidham became the second Auburn quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season, led the Tigers to two wins over #1 teams, and will be returning for his redshirt junior season in 2018.
- Malik Willis is the zone read wizard, lookin’ like Nick Marshall out there, breaking off long runs left and right in mop-up duty this season.
- Joey Gatewood is coming in to be the next guy in line, bringing Cam Newton size with him and the mobility to boot.
- And now, the early centerpiece of the 2019 class is another quarterback and an Auburn legacy. Bo Nix (son of Patrick) committed yesterday and gave the Tigers yet another bolster at the QB spot.
Now we just need a Sanders kid to come in at the receiver spot and we can relive some of the early 1990s glory days.
In the next couple of seasons, we should have ourselves quite the backfield with Nix and Asa Martin at tailback. They played against each other, and I’m not sure who was actually better in that game.
There was a state quarterfinal game this year that pitted @TheAsaMartin_ and @bo_nix10 against one another. Game ended 51-50 (OT) in favor of Nix.

Nix: 400 passing yards and 7 TDs.
Martin: 261 rushing yards and 3 TDs.
That's the future Auburn backfield.
As for this coming season, we should be fine. Our current quarterback certainly thinks so.
And hey, I know we’re not even halfway through January, but BASEBALL will be here ‘fore you know it. If you’ve listened to too much Hardcore History or My Favorite Murder, take a breather and go with this 36-minute interview with Butch Thompson talking his Tigers in 2018.
More to come, War Eagle!
