Auburn has been on the hunt for a second cornerback in this class and tonight they landed one. 3* DB Roger McCreary announced on Twitter tonight that he plans on being an Auburn Tiger.

McCreary emerged late on Auburn’s radar landing an offer in December. The Mobile native though quickly became a top target for the Auburn staff. The past two seasons Auburn has struck gold on underrated in-state defensive back talent in Daniel Thomas and Jordyn Peters. The Tigers are hoping McCreary makes it three years in a row. I have a feeling he’s going to prove a lot of evaluators wrong in the coming seasons.
Highlights
Scouting Report
The first thing that jumps out when watching McCreary’s tape is just how bad the videographer is for his team. It’s a nightmare trying to follow the action with the slow camera movement and random zooming...
As for what’s actually on tape, there’s a lot to like. McCreary is fast and it shows especially when he has the ball in his hands. Frequently he beats good angles for long touchdowns which is usually the sign of top notch speed. On the defensive side of the ball, I really like his ability to diagnose a play quickly and react. He’s not afraid to stick his nose in as a run defender and is outstanding playing the ball in the air. McCreary played mostly safety for his team but is expected to start out at cornerback for the Tigers. I expect there will be a bit of a learning curve for the young man as he relied a lot on his elite athleticism to make plays in high school. But there’s no denying this kid’s raw tools and he’s someone that Kevin Steele obviously likes.
The Class
Well I am 1 for 3 on my prediction picks this week so that’s something right? McCreary gives Auburn that final DB they were looking for in this class and bumps the Tigers commit list up to twenty three. That means Auburn has only two spots left barring a Kolbi Fuqua grayshirt. My guess is one of those spots will go to an offensive tackle and the other to the best available player that’s willing to jump on board first. Having most of the class on board two weeks away from signing day will allow the coaching staff to really focus in on a select few 2018 targets and get a head start on the 2019 class.
War Eagle Roger!
