It’s been awhile since Auburn had a commitment on national tv at one of these All American All-Star games. That changed tonight as longtime Auburn target 4* WR Anthony Schwartz announced on ESPN2 that he wants to play for the Auburn Tigers next season.

Just a few months ago landing Schwartz looked like a pipe dream for the Tigers. Long considered a lock to the Florida Gators, Auburn stayed hard in pursuit after the speedy Florida native and in the end that persistence paid off. The coaching turnover in Gainesville opened the door for Kodi Burns and the Tigers and they didn’t miss their shot.
Not only will Schwartz be a boost for the football program but he is one of the top sprinters in the country and will run track in college as well. There might not be a faster recruit in the country. He’s going to be a ton of fun to watch in orange and blue.
Highlights
Scouting Report
Let me be honest. Heading into Schwartz’s senior season I did not think he was an SEC calibre WR. Yes he is fast but you need to be more than fast to get open at the next level. I wanted to see him improve as a route runner and look more like a wide receiver and less like a track guy posing as a wide receiver. After his senior season, I am a believer. You can tell this young man put the work in and has grown into a true wideout. “Steady” and “consistent” were the words most often used by scouts this week when describing his play in practices. He impressed many with his ability to consistently get separation underneath and ability to make catches in traffic. His straight line speed makes him special but it’s his improvement at technique that makes him a legitimate four star wide receiver prospect and a guy Auburn fans should be really excited about.
The Class
Auburn now has 21 commitments in this class with four at the wide receiver spot. Kodi Burns took some heat from AU fans after the 2016 season for the small wide receiver class but he’s now put together one of the best WR classes in the country. What’s really exciting is that Auburn has signed four guys with four different skillsets that all add something different to this offense. A ton of talented pass catchers headed to the Plains in 2018.
War Eagle Anthony!
