We may be 3 weeks away from the start of College Basketball season, but recruiting season never ends. Auburn and Bruce Pearl have recruited Point Guard Tyrell “Turbo” Jones for a very long time. On Tuesday evening, that effort paid off.

Auburn Basketball landed its 5th commitment for the Class of 2019 when Jones committed to playing college basketball at Auburn. Jones selected Auburn over Ole Miss, Georgia, Louisville and several others.

Jones is 6’1”, 180 pounds and currently attends the West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Florida. Jones joins Isaac Okoro, Babatunde “Stretch” Akingbola, Jaylin Williams and Allen Flanigan as players committed to begin their collegiate careers during the 2019-2020 season. Of even more significance, Jones is the 1st guard committed to the class. With all 4 players in Auburn’s backcourt entering either their junior or senior year, getting guards for the future is of even greater importance for Auburn right now. According to Rivals, Jones is the 4th 4-Star Recruit to join the Class of 2019 and moves Auburn up to 4th in their Recruiting Rankings.

Tyrell’s stock rose significantly over the summer and he’s known for his quickness (thus the Turbo nickname) and ability to play up-tempo, which fits Auburn Basketball perfectly. Jones took his official visit to Auburn on September 15th, joining fellow Auburn commit Jaylin Williams on that visit. At the time, Jones wanted to visit the other schools on his list before making a final decision. Jones listed his Top 12 schools at the end of September but Auburn had long been considered the favorites for Jones due to his long standing relationship with Bruce Pearl. Welcome to the Auburn family Tyrell and War Eagle!
