It wasn’t 100% certain that 4* ATH Jashawn Sheffield would sign early as the South Carolina Gamecocks were working hard to convince the young man to wait until February so he could take an official visit to Columbia. Sheffield elected instead to stick with his pledge and sign early with the Tigers.

Sheffield broke out as a freshman when he was a star running back for Frederica Academy. He actually debuted as the #6 player in the country in the initial 2016 rankings on 247 Composite but has seen that ranking fall over the past two years. At one point in time, it looked like he and his teammate 4* CB Jaylin Simpson were destined for Tallahassee, FL. But things changed when Jimbo Fisher packed his bags and moved west. That opened the door back up and Auburn took full advantage beating out South Carolina and Tennessee for his pledge.
The 6’1” 178 lb Georgia native could really play anywhere for the Tigers. He starred as a running back, wide receiver, cornerback, linebacker and safety for his high school team over the years. I’m not sure Auburn has even told him yet where they will play him though I think it’s highly likely he ends up in the secondary. Sheffield has great length and good speed that makes him an ideal safety at the next level. Personally, I like him as a box safety. Someone you can roll down to play the run and send on some weak side blitzes to pressure the quarterback. It will be interesting to see where he lands for the Tigers down the road.
War Eagle Jashawn!
