Because I am a weirdo, I like to check out the Hudl accounts for some of the top high school programs in the southeast every summer. There are 20-30 programs you know are going to produce some of the top talent in the country every year. Archer High School in Lawrenceville, GA is one such school.
I went there initially to get a look at 5* CB Andrew Booth who was already getting a ton of attention at the time. That’s when I stumbled onto 4* DL Colby Wooden’s tape and fell in love. At the time, he was a lower ranked 3* player without a ton of offers. Over this past year he’s become one of the premier DL prospects in the southeast.
Today, he officially became an Auburn Tiger.

Auburn beat out Clemson for the talented edge prospect back in August. Since then, he’s been locked in with the Tigers and seen his ranking slowly climb.
Wooden is a versatile athlete up front who could play the Buck spot or slide over and play strong side defensive end. He’s got a lightning quick first step that allows him to beat OL off the snap. Wooden also has a nice rip move that gives interior OL fits when he slides inside on some 3rd down pass rush packages. Dude plays with a high motor every snap and is relentless in pursuit.
My guess is Wooden will probably need to improve his lower body strength so he can become a more consistent run defender. We saw this year some of the struggles the younger ends had for Auburn in setting the edge. But honestly I expect Wooden to challenge for a role in the rotation next year especially if the Tigers continue to struggle to find a consistent pass rusher from the Buck spot.
War Eagle Colby!
