Softball Weekend Recap - These Ladies Are Good

The Tigers stay perfect on the year with a huge sweep at the Tiger Invite.

Dakota Sumpter - Auburn Athletics

It was deja vu all over again for Auburn as the second weekend of the softball season has now come and gone with the Tigers remaining perfect after six wins at the Tiger Invite at Jane B. Moore Field.

Auburn improved to 13-0 on the year, and a perfect 12-0 at home after a week that began with sixth shutout win at Troy, and finished with the tenth shutout win back home yesterday over Georgia State. The Tigers beat GSU, Maryland, St. Francis (PA), and Delaware in six games over the weekend to continue the red hot start to the season.

Pitching remained the story, with Makayla Martin notching a no-hitter against Maryland yesterday in the 8-0 run-rule victory.

That was the second time the Tigers run-ruled the Terps, with a 12-1 win coming on Saturday afternoon. Auburn also lit up the scoreboard against Delaware in a 15-0 shutout to begin the event, and won the six games by a total of 51-4. So far on the season, Auburn’s pitching staff has allowed just five runs in thirteen games.

It wasn’t always easy, though. Auburn had to fight in the second game of the Tiger Invite against St. Francis, heading into the bottom of the seventh inning tied 3-3.

That’s the only one-run win of the year for Auburn, and it shows exactly how dominant the Tigers have been so far. Auburn will ramp up the competition a bit beginning this week as they’ll travel out to Cathedral City, California to participate in the Mary Nutter Classic against Notre Dame, Wisconsin, San Jose State, Oregon State, and Long Beach State. They’ll also play Cal State-Northridge on Wednesday to warm up for the weekend’s games.

Through two weekends of play, here are your leaders:

  • BATTING AVERAGE - Taylon Snow - .545
  • HITS - Taylon Snow - 18
  • RUNS - Victoria Draper - 14

Not a bad week for Auburn softball at all, let’s keep the wins going! War Eagle!
