When 4* WR Matthew Hill decided not to sign early, there were some concerns that maybe he wasn’t as solid to AU as many originally believed. Those fears escalated as Clemson made a strong push to add Hill as a safety in their class. But in the end, Hill stayed loyal and now he’s an Auburn Tiger.

Hill has quietly become Auburn’s 2nd highest rated signee, trailing only 4* QB Joey Gatewood. When you turn on the film you can see why. He’s dynamic with the ball in his hands and a threat to score on any play. While not necessarily a burner, he has enough burst to explode through openings and get into the open field. What really stands out though is how well he moves laterally making him a tough option to tackle in the open field.
His biggest opportunity to make an early impact might actually come on special teams. The Georgia native has flashed elite ability as a punt returner in his high school career and Tiger fans got a taste of it watching the Under Armour All-America Game.
Oh and if there’s too big of a logjam at wide receiver, Hill can help out at safety as well. That’s actually the position Clemson was recruiting him at in their own class.
Bottom line is Hill is an elite talent that will have a chance to help Auburn in some capacity immediately next season. Give a lot of credit to Kodi Burns for not only landing the stud recruit initially but fighting off Clemson’s late push as well. Hill is going to be a lot of fun to watch in an Auburn uniform next season.
War Eagle Matthew!
