Auburn had four commitments not sign early back in December. Two of those prospects chose to wait themselves so they could take official visits. One misunderstood the early signing process. Only 3* S Kolbi Fuqua was asked by the staff to wait. That sent up red flags about whether or not the young man would be apart of this signing class. The Auburn coaching staff wanted to make sure that his shoulder would be recovered by fall practice and if not they would ask him to grayshirt. There is also the implied reason that Auburn might want to keep an extra spot open in case the hit on a bigger name. Well after a day full of misses, the longtime Auburn commit got the greenligh and signed his letter of intent making him officially an Auburn Tiger.
I am really excited this kid was able to sign. He doesn’t have the flashiest of ratings and chances are good he’s a few years from contributing but he’s been as loyal a commitment as any prospect I have seen. He committed to the Tigers back at A-Day last spring as a wide receiver. Later, he agreed to switch to safety. Then come December, he agreed to hold off signing early so the staff could further evaluate his health. Through all of that he stuck with Auburn and made it clear that he wanted to be a Tiger. While Auburn tried to chase other flashier names, Fuqua stuck with the Tigers understanding his place might not be guaranteed. He’s got a fan in me that’s for sure. It’s going to make it extra sweet if he can find his way onto the field and contribute for Auburn down the road.
War Eagle Kolbi!
