Offense Wakes Up at the Right Time

#16 Auburn @ UAB

Tuesday: 11-8 W

I’ll go ahead and admit it, I had thrown it in. I kept listening to the radio call of the game but I had fully prepared myself for an Auburn defeat. The offense had been mostly lifeless for most of the game and the sign things aren’t going to go your way, TWO questionable calls from the umpires on the road follow by a quick fielding error that helped set up a 3 run inning for the Blazers. After the 6th inning with the score 8-3 and Auburn with only 9 outs to go, it DEFINITELY felt like one of those midweek pitfalls out of nowhere that College Baseball is known for. However, in the Top of the 7th, Josh Anthony crushed a 3 run homer to Left Center, 8-6. Corey Herndon came in and put a 0 up in the bottom half. Then in the 8th, Will Holland drove in Jay Estes to cut the lead down to 1. After a Luke Jarvis walk, Brett Wright (Gabe to those of you who follow us on twitter…) CRUSHED a 3 run blast to put the Tigers on top for good 10-8. Cody Green hill came in and shut UAB down striking out 3 in 2 innings of perfect work and Auburn added another run in the 9th for the 11-8 winner. I learned something again that I seem to forget but I won’t with this team, don’t ever count them out. Sure, they haven’t seen the type of pitching that they will see on the weekends in the SEC but who has yet really? This is a really fun team that Butch and staff have built up and it will definitely make the 3 or 4 months a whole lot of fun.

Around the League

#1 Florida @ UCF, TUE 9-7 L, WED 4-2 L

One game wouldn’t be a shock here. Two games is a shock. Fantastic 2 game sweep of the Gators for the Knights. Looks like they are for real again this season

#5 Kentucky

  • vs Eastern Kentucky, TUE 16-5 W
  • vs Northern Kentucky, WED 8-6 L

This is the problem with going in state during the midweek, as Auburn almost found out. It’s just one game but this one is an eyebrow raiser.

#9 Texas A&M vs Northwestern St, TUE 6-1 W, WED 7-6 W

Took care of business, good wins for the Aggies.

#10 Ole Miss

  • vs Austin Peay, TUE 11-4 W
  • vs Little Rock, WED 10-2 W

The Rebs look like they are living up to that preseason hype as we get set for conference play

#15 Vanderbilt @ Long Beach State, 4-3 L

Not a terrible loss for Vandy but that now makes the Dores 1-3 in their last 4 with games against UCLA and TCU this weekend in LA.

#17 LSU

  • vs Southern, TUE 8-2 W
  • @ UL-Lafayette, WED 4-3 L

Nothing to feel bad about with a 1 run road loss to the Cajuns.

Mississippi State vs New Mexico St, TUE 9-1 W, WED 6-0 W

Welcome home State. The Bulldogs open the New Dude in style against a quietly good NMSU team.

Alabama vs #16 Southern Miss, WED 3-0 W

Best win of the midweek by far, and a good response after a tough weekend in Oklahoma. A 5 pitcher combined 3 hitter for the Tide as they continue their hot start.

Tennessee vs James Madison, TUE 10-1 W, WED 21-2 L

Good win on Tuesday but OUCH! What in the world?!

South Carolina vs North Carolina A&T, WED 12-2 W

Took care of business.

Georgia

  • @ Charleston Southern, MON 5-4 L
  • @ The Citadel, TUE 9-4 W

After starting 7-1 the Dawgs have dropped 4 of their last 5, all be it all on the road. They host their next 4 in Athens before heading to T-town to open SEC play.

On Deck

The Tigers return home to take on Northeastern this weekend for the final non-conference series of the regular season. The Huskies have had a solid season so far, going 8-3 including 2 wins over Missouri. This will also be the first game outside of the state for Florida for Northeastern (they are based in Boston, MA). Friday is set for a 6 pm start with Saturday and Sunday both starting at 1 pm. The Tigers also have 2 home midweek games next week against Georgia Tech on Tuesday and Memphis on Wednesday before welcoming in the 9th ranked Aggies of Texas A&M that weekend to open SEC play.
