Auburn gets another series win and narrowly misses another sweep.

Cat Wofford - Auburn Athletics

As we progress past the fourth series of the SEC slate, Auburn’s got three series victories and one narrow defeat. It’s more the norm that the Tigers win more than they lose lately, and this weekend didn’t disappoint, with more great pitching paving the road for a 2-1 series win over Ole Miss.

In game one of the series in Oxford, the Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run sixth inning to take the opener. Alyssa Rivera’s late homer provided the margin and Auburn got the victory.

Kaylee Carlson pitched another gem and won her 15th game of the season in the process, limiting the Rebels to just six hits overall. The next night, it was more of the same, with Alyssa Rivera again driving in a pair of runs to break open the game and give Auburn plenty of margin for a 5-1 win.

In addition to the victories, the Auburn Softball Twitter account is killing it with GIFs galore, including one that’s going to become a new favorite.

And the old “hey tractor-trailer driver, honk that horn” move —

And again —

Anyway, Auburn lost the third game of the series on a walk-off homer in the eighth inning, so Ole Miss avoided the sweep in the last possible second. Ashlee Swindle took the loss earlier today to drop her record to 2-1 overall.

After the series, Auburn’s record now stands at 33-7 overall, 7-5 in SEC play, which is good for fifth place in the conference. The Tigers sit behind Florida (7-2), Georgia (8-3), South Carolina (6-3), and LSU (5-3). You can see that none of those teams have played as many SEC games as the Tigers have, so Auburn’s sample size is a bit greater, and their five total losses in the league have come by a total of six runs.
