Softball Weekly Recap - Final Home Series

Tigers down the Hogs to send the seniors out the right way.

Dakota Sumpter - Auburn Athletics

Auburn sent the seniors out winners at Jane B. Moore Field and took the final home series of the season, beating Arkansas twice to improve to 38-11 overall, and 11-9 in the SEC.

With seniors Victoria Draper, Kaylee Carlson, and Courtney Shea taking the field on the Plains for the final time (in the regular season), Auburn began the weekend the right way by rocking Arkansas 11-1 on Friday night.

Auburn run-ruled the Hogs Friday night thanks to two RBIs each from Taylon and Tannon Snow, Alyssa Rivera, and Morgan Podany. Kaylee Carlson allowed just one hit through four innings and got her eighteenth win of the season.

Unfortunately, Auburn lost the chance for a sweep when Arkansas won the second game of the series on Saturday, 4-2, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Razorbacks salvaged the win in ten innings with Carlson taking the loss after pitching the final four innings and allowed a home run in the top of the tenth.

However, the Tigers rebounded with a 4-2 win of their own in the rubber match to take the series.

Kaylee Carlson earned her third decision of the weekend, this time a complete game effort to finish out her regular season career at home.

Two of Auburn’s four RBIs were produced by senior Courtney Shea, both coming on a game-tying home run in the third inning.

RIght now, Auburn sits in 6th place in the SEC standings, but with a huge series coming up next weekend at Texas A&M, things could change in a hurry. The Aggies are just ahead of Auburn in terms of winning percentage with a 10-8 record, then Tennessee’s in fourth at 10-7, and South Carolina’s in third at 11-7. Georgia is in second place at 13-5, and Florida’s in first at 15-3. Auburn could likely end up in third place with a series win or a sweep in College Station, so the seeding for the SEC Tournament is still largely up in the air.
