There was a time many thought Arkansas had made the hire of the offseason when they stole Bret Bielema away from Wisconsin. Hawg fans were quick to let Auburn fans know Gus Malzahn was only on the Plains because Arkansas had gotten their guy in Bielema. Grown man football was coming to Fayetteville and Arkansas was going to line up and smash people in the mouth over and over again.
Turns out, trying to run at people with inferior talent is a great way to get your butt kicked. And a butt kicking is the best way to describe Auburn’s 56-3 victory in 2016.
It was a rocky start to the 2016 campaign for the Tigers. First, there was the abomination that was the Clemson game followed later by 29-16 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies. But then things started clicking after Daniel Carlson and the Auburn defense beat LSU in a wild 18-13 affair in Jordan-Hare. The Tigers handled ULM before going on the road and thrashing Mississippi State. That game was really Kamryn Pettway’s coming out party.
Auburn had a bye week before this game while the Hawgs were coming off a tough victory over Ole Miss. It became very clear which team was ready to play that day. Auburn’s very first offensive play of the game was a 78 yard touchdown run by Eli Stove. It took Auburn 10 plays to score on their next drive, covering 91 yards but only 2:39 of game time.
It’s the weekend so instead of some long drawn out pretend analysis here’s a bunch of gifs of Pettway wrecking Arkansas’s defense. Enjoy.
Sean White had wheels ya’ll...
