He made us wait but the decision is finally in. Since visiting back at the end of March, 4* ATH Jashawn Sheffield has had the Tigers #1 on his list. In fact, there were a lot of rumors he was expected to commit to Auburn the day after 5* LB Owen Pappoe. His teammate 4* CB Jaylin Simpson committed the day before Pappoe so Auburn was hoping for 3 straight days of booms. Instead, those close to Sheffield asked him to hold off and make sure he was making the right decision. After taking that time, the pick is in. Sheffield wants to be an Auburn Tiger.

Like Simpson, when Jimbo Fisher was still running things in Tallahassee, Sheffield looked to be a lock to the Noles. But Fisher leaving for Aggieland opened the door up for a number of schools. The Tigers pounced all over the opportunity but had to fight off the likes of South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and plenty of others.
Highlights
Scouting Report
Sheffield is a very talented athlete that could play on either side of the ball at the next level. He broke out as a true freshman in high school at running back and was even once rated a 5*. He’s seen his ranking fall some over the past couple of years, but is still a highly regarded prospect. Auburn appears to like him at the safety spot though he could play on the offensive side as well. Given his 6’1” 178 lb frame and his physicality, safety makes a lot of sense. You can see briefly in his tape that he takes great angles to the football and isn’t afraid of contact. At wideout he displays outstanding hands and his length make him a great jump ball target. Sheffield doesn’t necessarily posses elite speed but he’s more than fast enough to take it the distance. Bottom line, this dude will help Auburn somewhere next season. Big time football player.
The Class
Auburn now has 12 commits in the 2019 with more booms possibly coming in the near future. There’s also a very good chance they lose a commit this weekend as 3* CB Cordale Flott is finishing up his official visit to LSU. But overall the Tigers are off to a strong start with a very realistic shot at snagging a top 5 class.
War Eagle Jashawn!
