As you can probably guess, 2013 will have quite a few highlights in this countdown. We’ve already celebrated the Kick 6, now we look at your more run of the mill touchdown via kick return. Not that it makes it any less awesome.
I was very irritated at halftime in 2013 watching Auburn battle the Tennessee Volunteers. The Fighting Butch’s were 4-5 and the feeling was Auburn would run them out of Neyland in a hurry that Saturday. The Tigers did end up running them off the field but it took longer than I wanted. I’m a very impatient man.
Auburn took a 34-20 lead to halftime thanks to a late touchdown run by Nick Marshall after having thrown a pick 6 the previous drive. The Vols were kicking off and Auburn was hoping to start the 3rd quarter strong. Corey Grant answered the call.
Corey Grant is a very fast human being. Tennessee’s coverage isn’t necessarily bad on this play, the problem is they don’t have the horses to run with Grant. He crosses the entire width of the field and then beats a number of Tennessee defenders with great angles down the sideline. That’s some serious speed.
Fun fact about this game, Nick Marshall only attempted 7 passes. When you rush for 444 yards and average 8.4 a carry, you don’t really need to throw it much. If you wanna watch pure rushing dominance check the video out below.
90 days till kickoff! War Eagle!
