Auburn has been blessed with a nice run of talented kickers. Damon Duval gave way to John Vaughn who in turn passed the torch to Wes Byrum who kicked it over to today’s hero Cody Parkey.
Parkey signed with Auburn as part of the 2010 class. 247 Composite ranked him as the #2 kicker in the class (Alabama signee Jay Williams was #1...) and started his career as a kickoff specialist for the Tigers. He left Auburn as one of the best kickers in history though a dreadful 2012 offense probably hurt him from being even higher on the list in terms of points scored. Parkey also holds the record for the longest field goal made in the SEC Championship Game, a 52 yard bomb early in the 3rd quarter vs Missouri.
Parkey signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2014 but was traded to the Eagles. He had a huge rookie year, setting the NFL rookie scoring record which earned him an invite to the Pro Bowl. However, a groin injury sidelined him in 2015 and robbed him of a lot of his power. He played for the Browns in 2016 but didn’t impress enough to stay on the roster. Last year, Parkey bounced back with a strong performance in Miami and earned a 4 year contract with the Bears. He and Daniel Carlson will face off later this November.
52 days till kickoff! War Eagle!
