The Countdown to Kickoff continues today at the midway point of our push. We’ve gone through 50 days, and there are 50 left to go until Auburn vs Washington in Atlanta at the beginning of September. How about it?
...
After beating Georgia and one week before taking down Alabama, Auburn had to gear up for a game against a pesky opponent — Louisiana-Monroe.
The Warhawks had a history of upsets and near-misses in the SEC. They’d beaten Alabama in Nick Saban’s first year, took down Arkansas in 2012, and nearly got Auburn right after that as well. Fast forward to this season, when the Tigers had to get up between two mammoth matchups against a ULM bunch that could really nip at you.
Auburn scored first on a Kerryon Johnson touchdown run, but ULM answered midway through the first quarter. The Tigers were ineffective offensively after that until they decided to kick it into gear tied 7-7 right before the end of the half.
If you check out AU Nerd’s recap of the entire drive that spanned 96 yards in just four plays, you may learn a thing or two about what the Tigers like to do on offense. However, it’s the final play of that drive featuring a fantastic pass and an even better catch by Darius Slayton to put Auburn on top for good.
This was also the game that the announcers on TV were talking about Chip Lindsey and the camera kept showing Rod Bramblett.
Gus Malzahn asked if he heard about ESPN misidentifying Rod Bramblett as Chip Lindsey last weekend: "We weren't playing very good in the 1st half. Maybe you were calling plays.... and the real Chip Lindsey started calling plays in the 2nd half. Now I get it. Now it makes sense."
