Countdown to Kickoff: 32 Days

It just means more

AL.com

There are times in our lives when we realize we are witnessing something historic. When Chris Davis turned the corner, we knew that Auburn had just done something that had never been done before. When Cam Newton mowed his way through LSU’s defense, we knew Auburn’s 3rd Heisman trophy was soon arriving. When the clock ticked down to 0:00 in Starkville in 2008, we knew that the game of football had been changed forever...

2008 wasn’t supposed to be this way. Auburn entered as the favorite to win the SEC West. Tony Franklin’s spread attack paired with former 5* QB Kodi Burns was going to take the conference by storm. Instead, Auburn’s offense struggled to consistently do anything and eventually the defense joined it in collapsing. The Tommy Tuberville era finally came to a bitter end and Auburn’s 7 game Iron Bowl win streak was painfully stopped. It wasn’t a lot of fun...

So thanks Nerd for bringing up two of the worst seasons in Auburn football history on back to back days. Really gets us fired up for the upcoming season....

But before it became clear that Tuberville’s time was up, there was this glorious evening in Starkville. Auburn was 2-0 and on the road facing a 1-1 Mississippi State squad. What happened that evening was transformative for anyone that watched it. Auburn lost three fumbles, committed fourteen penalties, went 3-16 on third down, missed two field goals and compiled only 315 yards of offense, yet somehow won the game.

There’s a fine line between bad football and art, is there not?
