Last week, the Tigers snagged commitments from two of their top defensive targets in 3* DE Colby Wooden and 4* DB Zion Puckett. It looked like those might be the final two commitments of the offseason but it turns out the Tigers had other plans
This afternoon on Twitter, 4* DB Cam’Ron Kelly announced his pledge to the Auburn Tigers.

Auburn has made a strong late push for Virginia’s 4th ranked prospect. The 4* ATH visited the Plains for Auburn’s BBQ event late July and left with the Tigers as one of his top teams. He apparently saw enough to go ahead and pull the trigger this afternoon.
Highlights
Scouting Report
Cam’Ron Kelly is a big dude. He’s listed at 6’1” 195 lbs by the scouting services but I would not be surprised to see him come in somewhere around 6’2” 200+ lbs by the time he makes it to the Plains. He plays pretty much everywhere for his high school team but I personally think his future is at safety. He’s incredibly strong and can deliver a lick when needed. He’s also got a great burst allowing him to quickly close on ball carriers or wide receivers. Reportedly, the staff LOVES his versatility so he could land really anywhere in the back half of the defense though he will probably start out at cornerback (his preferred position). The bottom line is he’s another elite athlete added to this future Auburn secondary.
The Class
Kelly’s commitment moves Auburn up to #8 in 247’s Composite team rankings. It also gives Auburn their 4th DB commitment of the class. More than likely one of 3* Nehemiah Pritchett or 3* Kenny Logan just lost their spot but we will see what happens in the coming months. I suspect that Auburn will try and take one more defensive back if possible but they could stick with this talented group moving forward and use that spot somewhere else.
Obviously, the fact that Kelly has decommitted already and has flirted with quite a few schools probably gives Auburn fans some concern about him sticking over the coming months. However, it’s important to note that he’s already used four of his official visits and will more than likely now use his final one on a return trip to the Plains. That means he will have to pay his own way to visit anywhere else. I think Virginia Tech will continue to lurk as a threat but I feel pretty confident with the Tigers keeping him in the class.
When Owen Pappoe committed back in May, he promised the Auburn Family a top 5 class. So far, Auburn is very much on pace to reaching that goal. The Tigers hold 16 commitments and still have somewhere between 7-8 spots left to fill yet they are already ranked #8 in the country. They are the presumed favorites for both 4* Buck Derick Hall and 4* WR Jalen Curry. If Auburn can close on those two, hit on one of their top running back targets and T-WILL pull off a big time flip at linebacker, Pappoe’s dream could very much become a reality.
Top 5 or not, this class is clearly turning out to be one of Gus’s best since he arrived on the Plains. If Auburn can put together another strong year on the field in 2018, got a feeling that these type of classes will soon become the norm for the Tigers in the very near future.
War Eagle Cam’Ron!
