The immediate takeaways? Auburn got nine players overall on the list, but NONE on the first team.
Now, before we question that, we’ll list off the players that did get recognition:
2nd TEAM
- QB Jarrett Stidham
- WR Ryan Davis
- DT Derrick Brown
- LB Deshaun Davis
- CB Jamel Dean
3rd TEAM
- OG Marquel Harrell
- DE Marlon Davidson
- DT Dontavius Russell
- CD Javaris Davis
Those are pretty much the guys that you’d expect would end up being on the team, although I’m surprised that Darrell Williams didn’t get a nod somewhere, and that Darius Slayton isn’t listed anywhere either.
Obviously, none of this means anything, as coaches aren’t allowed to vote for their own players and not a single football has been snapped, but it is an interesting example of people sleeping on the 9th-ranked team in the country. I know many Auburn fans like to be underrated heading into the season (something about 2003 and 2015, I think), but it is a bit surprising that not a single Tiger made the first team. Here’s the full list on the SEC website.
Oh well, nine days to kickoff. War Eagle.
