We’ve actually finished with the first third of the football season (where does the time go), and we’re coming up on Auburn’s final rest stop before conference play really kicks into high gear. The Tigers have four games left before the bye week, and could very well be 7-1 if things fall the right way by the time Amen Corner arrives.
Still, fans and Auburnites alike are miffed after the offense seemed to take a step back against Arkansas with execution, communication, attitude all being problems last Saturday, However, the stagnation on offense was countered by incredibly high defensive play and the emergence of serious weapons in the special teams phase of the game. Auburn’s scoring drives spanned 27 yards, one yard, nine yards, 72 yards, and minus-ten yards. It was not a good night offensively, but it got the job done in conjunction with the other areas of the game, and the Tigers even covered.
Now, there will be an emphasis on finding something that works against Southern Miss. Gus Malzahn will need to figure out how to really move defenders with the offensive line before SEC play really gets rolling. He’ll need to get Jarrett Stidham back to the form we saw last November, and he’ll need to figure out which weapons around Stidham give us the best chance to win.
So, here’s how to watch the chemist himself go to work.
