It’s Southern Miss tomorrow, everyone, and while we expect a good time on the Plains, we need to honor the heritage that the Golden Eagles are bringing along... a musical heritage, if you will.
Robert Johnson - Crossroads
This song gets us an introspective look at Auburn right from the get-go. We are at a crossroads for this season. The Tigers can improve against Southern Miss and roll on to what we expect can be another ten-win season, or they can continue to struggle and limp along to eight wins. It’s up to Gus and his guys. What’s more, we haven’t had to sell our souls at this point to get to where we are. Will we have to do that to take the next step?
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
C”mon, a quintessential song about the state. We’re saving some others for next week, though.
Outkast - The Art of Storytellin’ Part 4
Simply for the line: “I started off starvin’, now they got me out here Brett Favre-in’, tryin’ to see if I still got it.”
Afroman - Mississippi
Afroman was partially raised in Hattiesburg, and has a song about the state! Who knew??
Jimmy Buffett - Cheeseburger in Paradise
“I like defense with sacks and interceptions, offense giving Seth Williams ten or so receptions, big scoring output and a solid win, good God almighty Bodda Getta again!”
Jimmy Buffett went to Auburn AND Southern Miss, so he’s perfect for this playlist. I just happen to enjoy Cheeseburger in Paradise.
Clifton Hyde (lead guitar and Chapman Stick, which is a musical instrument apparently) plays for Blue Man Group and is from Hattiesburg. We’re ending it weird.
War Eagle, I guess. This is a weird playlist, and it’s short, so enjoy while you can.
