The latest rankings came out earlier this afternoon, and after Auburn’s close loss to Kentucky over the weekend, it could’ve been a worse drop.
AP POLL ALERT: Tennessee rises to No. 1 in AP Top 25 for first time in 11 years after Duke, Michigan, Virginia all lose. See the full poll: https://t.co/9AFWaGnl8w pic.twitter.com/gHyOmZDlsc

Auburn fell to #16 in the AP Poll after a 1-1 week that included an easy road win over Texas A&M and the Saturday defeat to the Wildcats. With no undefeated teams left in the country, there was a bit of a shakeup atop the rankings. Here’s the new top ten:
- Tennessee
- Duke
- Virginia
- Gonzaga
- Michigan
- Michigan State
- Nevada
- Kentucky
- Kansas
- Virginia Tech
Bruce Pearl’s guys are still the second-highest-ranked SEC team in the country, but we’ve got a March 9th date set with the new #1 team in the country. Tennessee nearly lost the opportunity to take that spot, as the Vols almost lost at home to Alabama, but they got the win and sit atop the rankings at 16-1. After Auburn, Ole Miss is #20, Mississippi State is #22, and LSU is #25.
As for the games this week, there are some doozies, and they start tonight...
1/21/19 - #13 Maryland @ #6 Michigan State, #10 Virginia Tech @ #11 UNC, #24 Iowa State @ #5 Kansas
1/22/19 - #22 Mississippi State @ #8 Kentucky
1/24/19 - #6 Michigan State @ #19 Iowa, #21 NC State @ 23 Louisville
1/26/19 - #24 Iowa State @ #20 Ole Miss, #9 Kansas @ #8 Kentucky, #16 Auburn @ #22 Mississippi State
Big week, let’s see how the Tigers can do to make up ground!
