Earlier in this countdown, we talked about Jared Harper’s great game against Xavier in Maui. At #35, and 5 weeks away from Auburn/Georgia Southern, we talk about Bryce Brown’s equally impressive game against the Musketeers. While Harper made the dunk that everyone remembers from this game, Bryce ended up being the leading scorer in a game where both guys had to be on their “A” game to knock off Xavier and get a shot at Duke.
Total Points: 26
Date: November 19, 2018
Final Score: Auburn 88 Xavier 79 (OT)
Bryce was 8-18 from the field, 5-13 from 3 and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also had 5 rebounds and 5 assists to go with his 26 points. Bryce started off the tournament with a 3-pointer. That was his only basket of the 1st half until the last 5 minutes of the half when Brown scored Auburn’s next 8 points and 10 of 13 points to increase Auburn’s lead from 1 to 12 over a 2 1⁄2 minute stretch. He had 13 points at half and Auburn led 33-28 at halftime.
In the 2nd half, Bryce hit another 3 a little more than 2 minutes into the half, then had a dunk midway through the half before scoring again on 3-pointer to put Auburn up 77-72 with a little more than 2 minutes left. It looked to be a potentially back-breaking 3 but Xavier forced OT.
In overtime, Bryce hit 3 free throws on two separate occasions and then finished off the scoring with a fast-break dunk which finally put Xavier away and gave Auburn a 88-79 win.
Tomorrow at #34, we go back to the biggest win in program history.
